Group honors year's top builder, associate

Dusty Johnston, owner and president of Liberty Homes Inc., received the annual Builder of the Year Award from the Builders Association of South Central Oklahoma.

Johnston, who lives in Moore and heads up construction and development for Liberty Homes, received the award at BASCO's annual Awards Banquet, held recently at the Embassy Suites in Norman.

At the awards banquet, BASCO also recognized Scott S. Hofmann Jr., vice president and commercial loan officer of BancFirst of Norman, as its Associate of the Year.

Johnston has more than 12 years experience in residential and commercial construction, and has built more than 300 homes for various production and custom home building companies.

Johnston was among the first builders in Oklahoma to receive a Certified Professional Builder certification from the Oklahoma State Home Builders Association. His company, Liberty Homes Inc., is a custom home builder serving the Norman and Oklahoma City metropolitan area.

Johnston holds a bachelor of arts & sciences degree from the University of Oklahoma. He and his wife, Nicole, have one child.

Hofmann, who is president of BASCO's Associates Council, moved to Norman from Ardmore in 2000 to attend OU, and holds a degree in finance from OU's Michael F. Price College of Business.

Hofmann is involved with the United Way of Norman, the Norman Chamber of Commerce and the Cleveland County Child Welfare Unit. He and his wife, Erin, have two daughters, ages 3 years and 7 months.

Several other annual awards were presented at the banquet:

• Tony Foust, DaVinci Homes, received the W. T. Jameson Membership Award.

• Bryan Wynne, First Bank & Trust Co., was given the President Award.

• Donna Cullins, Preferred Plans Inc., received the Outstanding Participation Award.

• Katie Giebler, Old Republic Title of Oklahoma, was named Newcomer of the Year.

• Trey Bates, Hallbrooke Development Group LLC, received the Treasurer’s Award for serving four years.

The Builders Association of South Central Oklahoma is located in Norman and serves Cleveland, McClain, Garvin and Grady counties. Through local, state and national educational programs, the association seeks to keep its members informed of changes in the industry and improvements in construction materials and techniques.
