First CPB of the Year Awarded

Posted on July 22, 2013 by Mike Means

At this year's summer convention, the Oklahoma State Home Builders Association awarded its first ever Certified Professional Builder of the Year award to Michael Herndon of Kingston, Oklahoma. Herndon is a member of the Southern Oklahoma Builders Association.

CPB of the year Herndon, Foust 2This award, not to be confused with the annual Builder of the Year award, honors the member who best represents what it means to be a Certified Professional Builder (CPB). A CPB is that builder who steps up their professionalism beyond the basic requirements. A CPB agrees to build to code no matter the jurisdiction, to provide a written warranty, to have all the insurance necessary, and to take a minimum amount of annual continuing education.

We asked Herndon about his award. He replied, "I became involved in the CPB program from the beginning with Mark Dale. It was important because we need a way to set us apart from the average builder. The designation means a builder has taken efforts in education, to learn the latest building-science techniques. With the CPB requirements of insurance, warranties and education, among others, a home buyer can't go wrong. I'm passionate about what I do in building homes because I am helping a family create a dream which is energy efficient and comfortable, that a family can thrive in."

Herndon, a past state association president, was awarded the CPB of the Month in May, 2012. The CPB of the Year covers the period Feb 2012 when the program started through May 2013. Herndon, Michael (3)Herndon has embraced the program and always exceeds the required number of hours of continuing education. He emphasizes the CPB program to his customers and vendors.

From all of us at OSHBA, we congratulate Michael Herndon as our first CPB of the Year!
